Bunny proof check list
- Provide a secure and completely safe environment such as a pen when your bunny is unsupervised.
- Never allow you bunny to play in areas you share unsupervised.
- Remove any reclining chairs, reclining sofas or rocking chairs - even sliding rockers as bunnys can become trapped in them and get hurt trying to escape or crushed under in the mechanism.
- Keep bathroom doors shut. Rabbits can jump into bath tubs and shower units and hurt themselves trying to escape.
- Always keep the toilet lid shut as bunnys can become trapped and hurt themselves trying to escape or even drown.
- Store your bicycle and exercise bike in a safe place away from them. Rabbits can get stuck between the spokes, whether they are moving or stationary. Rabbits can also get tangled and stuck in bike chains.
- Find a place to keep your shoes, handbags and jackets away from your rabbit.
- Take your shoes off in your home and always walk slowly especially when you have food as bunnys can easily get tangled between your feet or trodden underfoot.
- Never allow access to unprotected power cords.
- Move plans to areas where they and falling leaves cannot be accessed as many of them can be toxic and cause poisoning.
- Avoid any narrow areas behind cabinets or furniture where your bunny could get stuck and hurt itself trying to escape.
- Move items out of reach that can cause injury if they where to fall.
- Always place domestic appliance such as hovers and irons in a cupboard when not in use.
- Ensure latches on cupboards and wardrobes cannot be tugged or nudged open.
- Ensure surfaces with small gaps in it such as the top of a wire cage or wicker furniture are covered to prevent injury from toes becoming trapped.
- Use bunny gates on frequently used doors to prevent breakouts and trapped paws.
- Always move your remote controls out of reach.
- Never place hot food on surfaces that can be accessed.
- Always remove tape or staples from cardboard toys.
- Prevent items of post falling on to the floor from the letter box.
- Do not place toilet rolls on the floor by providing a toilet roll holder that is out of reach.
- Cover larger areas of slide floor surfaces with wool rugs or carpet off cuts.
- Ensure all floor surfaces are seeped and disinfected on a regular bases.
- Ensure all foods and treats are cleared away when your bunny is not present to prevent insect or rodent infestations.
- Remove or make inaccessible any items in your home that are being Gnawed and digested excessively.
