Bunny proofing speakers and speaker leads. How to stop a house rabbit chewing speakers & leads. Make sure your speakers are safe

Many people value there speakers not just for the quality of there sound but also for the way they look. Unfortunate they are not going to go unnoticed by your rabbit that’s likely to be more interested in how they taste which can lead to some unsightly damage. Bunny proofing them can make them safe and stop damage which can lead to an expensive repair job.

Speakers can become easily damaged leading to some costly repairs.
Speakers can be dangerous to a rabbit if they topple and fall of if things placed on top of them fall off if the speakers are tugged and or knocked into. The may also be damaged from chewing to the boxes , the leads or the material they are covered with.

The soft materials you speakers are made of make them irresistible to a rabbit.
Speakers have a number of appealing qualities to a rabbit including soft wooden corners that can be rounded off, cloth covers that can be chewed up, the speakers themselves are perfect for shredding up and rather expensive cables can be sliced through in an instance like the roots of a plant.

Bunny proofing your speakers is essential to prevent damage to these delicate objects and ensuring they are safe. Although It’s also not always practical to move them out of harms way or block them in as this could effect the sound there are some bunny proofing measures that can be taken to protect them.

Speaker stands

Invest in a solid set of speaker stands so your speakers are out of harms way.
Speaker stands are a good way of preventing damage by moving the speakers off the floor and away from your bunny rabbit’s level of your attention. Always ensure that you get a good sturdy set of stands that cannot be pushed over if they are banged into. If possible secure the stands to the floor. Lastly check they the cables are not accessible in case they get tugged on which can pulling the speakers over.

Pet pen fencing

Floor standing speakers can be protected using wire fence so the sound isn’t effected.
If you have floor standing speakers then you can protect them by fencing them in. The simplest way to do this is break apart a few section of a wire pet pen. This wont effect there sound quality and will mean they are totally safe. Always ensure they have there protective covers on so the speaker cones cannot be reached.

Speaker cable

Speaker cables can be protected using cables tidying that wrap around the cables.
Stationary suppliers or DIY stores provide some easy to use solution for tiding up cables that can be used to protect them. These typically come in the form of flexible split length tubing or coils that can be wrapped around the cables. You can also tape the rest of the speaker cable to the floor or lead it under a carpet or a rug to make it inaccessible.

Keep surfaces clear

Never place items on top of your speakers as they can be dangerous if knocked off.
It is important for safety reasons that you never use your speakers as convenient place to place loose items and never place ornaments on top such a plants pots or picture frames. These can be knocked of the speaker and fall causing harm.
